My Three Pillars of Happiness

I recently decided to try really hard to be less materialistic and letting go of Heck of A Lot of things. For a while now, I’ve been wanting to focus on three main pillars that my Happiness is based on, but simply couldn’t narrow it down. Now, I finally managed to narrow down my list, and I feel comfortable and happy with what I have.

My Three Pillars of Happiness

My Family & Friends

Harry Potter

Some might think that the first one is pretty obvious, but, out of experience, I am one of the lucky few who has an amazing relationship with their parent(s) and/or step-parent. I get on really well with my mum and my stepdad and know that I’m ridiculously lucky. The same kind of goes for my friends. I have amazing friends who I can talk to about anything and everything and they just put up with me and make me feel liked and loved as a friend. I never seem to get on their nerves, and they certainly never get on my nerves.

I realised that travelling is the second pillar, while travelling. While on holiday in Malaysia, I realised how happy travelling made me. Experiencing different cultures and food is exciting and always an adventure. Speaking to different people from all corners of the world is equally amazing. Coming home always felt like I was leaving happiness elsewhere. I’m really glad I finally, finally realised that travelling is my second pillar. It’s giving me a real aim to save money and made me realise how important travelling is to my mental health.

The third pillar of my happiness is Harry Potter. Harry Potter got me into reading books and makes me feel part of a community without having to fit into certain criteria regarding gender, skin colour or language. The world of Harry Potter has kept me alive for many years and always puts a smile on my face somehow.

Sunny Saturday

It is truly lovely weather outside. The sun is shining, it’s warm, and its a Saturday. Saturdays are usually my favourite day of the week, and I do enjoy the sun.

But recently I just haven’t been feeling myself. I think its a combination of Holiday blues and moving house. I can’t seem to get into the habit of writing anything, despite having many ideas. Is it too warm? Am I too preoccupied? Who knows, because I don’t.

I really hope this weird mood disappears soon so I can really figure out what to write about and what to film for my youtube channel.

Things I considered writing were book reviews and movie reviews. I watch heck of a lot of movies and when I do manage to read a book, I would enjoy reviewing it properly (instead of just in my mind).

I personally would love to review recent movies here on this blog, from a queer biracial point of view. Time to set some time aside for that! (And to remember to actually take some notes before and after?)

Writing Challenge: Day 7

Day 7: List 10 Songs that you’re loving right now

Natives -Warpaint
Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them -Main Titles
Bry -Disarm
SYML -here’s my love
Busted -Coming Home
Busted -Those Days Are Gone
Twenty One Pilots -Stressed Out
Moana -How Far I’ll Go
Westlife -How To Break A Heart
Busted -Meet you there

Harry Styles -Sign of the Times

To be honest, most of these I’m loving now, and have loved ever since I first heard them. Some of them (looking at number 9 and 10 there) I have loved for many years now and still do. Now I feel like going through Steps, S Club 7, Boyzone and Spice Girls.

FUCK I FORGOT THE SPICE GIRLS. I LOVE THEM TOO. THERE ARE TOO MANY SONGS. And yes, I listen to pretty much all of them on an irregular regular basis. For some reason, I have huge difficulties attaching myself to new bands or anything. I guess I love Busted, Westlife and Spice Girls especially because I grew up listening to them. Moana holds a special place in my heart, because the entire movie and the music makes me feel happy. So does Harry Potter. But I doubt anybody is actually surprised that that one is in there.

30 Day Writing Challenge: Day One

Day One

Inspired by this pin on Pinterest, I thought I’d do the 30 Day writing Challenge. Day One is listing 10 things that make me really happy.

So here I go

  1. The Harry Potter series
  2. Remus Lupin / David Thewlis
  3. Cats
  4. Dogs, especially puppies
  5. Bats
  6. My friends
  7. Going on Holiday
  8. Historic Things, e.g. visiting castles
  9. Going to the beach
  10. Going on a walk in a Forest.

Well, that was easy and quick. I can already tell that day two is going to be really difficult, though. Otherwise, this challenge is going to be super interesting and is going to keep my fingers typing.

I’m also going on holiday, so I’m actually not sure how frequent I will be able to post stuff. At least four days will be super difficult because we’re going to be island hopping.

I have time and energy to pre edit some posts now, so writing them up will hopefully not be the problem.

Today I nearly thought of treating myself to the Harry Potter loot box but I cannot explain to myself why I would spend £40 on something.

Question of the day: What is your favourite smell?

I really love the smell of wet dirty leaves? And Woods or Forests after it has rained? I also love the smell of lavender, bonfires, a specific tea and spring. Not all at once. That are like the smells I remember loving the most.

Boring old Sunday

I actually spent most of my day doing some academic reading and watching movies. My attention span managed to get through four movies. Usually I struggle massively to get through one. I did think about watching another one, but I had a feeling that might’ve been stretching it. Filling up on tea and I keep finding reasons to tidy up. How I get anything done, truly done, we’ll never know.

Question of the day: Sweets or chocolate?

I love chocolate. But I also love sweets. And I quite like crisps. I really miss egg sandwiches with crisps (I think it is time I treated myself to this again). I have a massive sweet tooth, which causes quite a few problems, but I limit myself to weekends 99% of the time. At the moment it seems to be working out quite well.

Phrase of the day: Aller Anfang ist schwer

This is actually a German proverb, meaning something along the lines of “Every Beginning is difficult.”
I quite like this proverb and have heard it several times growing up. This is especially said, for example, when you’re learning something new and are struggling with it.

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be

Today I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them again. I just really like the music, the way Eddie Redmayne looks and Niffler and the magic. It’s very entertaining and I can’t wait for the other movies. I don’t know why I leave writing so late. I am tired and to be honest, not much exciting has happened today.

The Harry Potter Tag

Inspired by this video, I shall be doing the Harry Potter Tag!

I tried to write out the questions as they appeared in the video, and I have the feeling I missed out a question… Anyhow, lets go.

What is your favourite book?
Harry Potter and the philosophers stone

What is your favourite movie?
Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban

What is your least favourite book?
Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix purely because it took me forever to read.

What is your least favourite movie?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, purely because I disliked the look of Harry Potter at the beginning of the movie? It’s childish I know but thats the only reason I could spontaneously think off!

What is your Favourite Quote?
“Now if you two don’t mind, I’m going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed – or worse, expelled.” -Hermione Granger

Who is your Favourite Weasley?
Molly Weasley or Ginny Weasley

Who is your favourite (female)character?
One of my most favourite characters is Remus Lupin.

Who is your favourite villain?
Bellatrix. The most obvious answer, but she’s awesome as a villain.

Who is your favourite (male) character?
Another favourite character is Luna Lovegood. And I really love Hermione Granger.

Favourite Professor?
Professor McGonagall, right next to Professor Lupin.

Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies?
Ginny Weasley.

If you could remake any of the movies, which one would it be?
Order of the Phoenix I think, just to include Hermiones’ stand for the House Elves. And any movie after that to include more of Remus/Tonks. And possibly the third one so we can get more info on the Marauders and their importance to the story line?

Which House was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?
I always wanted to be Griffindor, because of Hermione, but my gut feeling was that it might be Hufflepuff. Turns out I’m a proud Ravenclaw. Blue is also my favourite colour, and I automatically kinda wear it a lot.

Which class would be your favourite?
All of them, honestly. How could I choose just one?? I think I’d love Astronomy, History of Magic, Transfiguration and Study of Ancient Runes.

Which spell do you think is most useful?
Most of them, really. I really love Lumos, to, like, read in bed and stuff.

Which character do you think you’d instantly become friends with?
Luna Lovegood. I’d attach myself to Ginny, too, and Hermione. And Cho Chang.

If you could own one of the three hallows, which one would it be?
The Invisibility Cloak.

Is there any aspects of the books you’d want to change?
I’d love if Ron (+the other Weasleys) swore a lot more. I’d love to have more of a colourful language coming from them, or just more swearing in general, from everybody.

Hallows or Horcruxes?
Both? Both. Definitely both.

Yesterday, I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them with two friends of mine and I thought it was real good n I can’t wait for the other movies!

Some more videos -Potter related, naturally.

Favourite Harry Potter Videos

Just for fun and because I wanna, here are some of my favourite Harry Potter themed YouTube videos

Tessa Nettling is a must, naturally.

Honestly, this channel is a gift of the heavens and I love it so much it hurts. I love them so much, I added four videos to the list, but honestly. All the videos are amazing.

The two Harry Potter Parodies by The Hillywood show. I couldn’t decide which ones I liked most, so I added the two of them. I always quite like the dancing in their parodies so.

I can’t ever stop watching this one. Honestly, its pure gold.

I am struggling so much with the things going on in my life currently, it is truly amazing how I am still functioning somewhat. Hence, why I am wallowing in Harry Potter videos n stuff, just because it makes me happy.

I also stood outside for five minutes just now and listened to some owls hooting at each other which in itself was an amazing feeling and I haven’t smiled like that in a very long time. It was nice. I love owls.

Harry Potter Book Collection

Obviously, this is not a book, but look how cute he looks!
IMG_0625 copy
This is obviously not a book either, but he’s part of Harry Potter. Just look at the details!
My German Hardcover Harry Potter series.
One of my English Harry potter collections, given to me by a good friend of mine.
My complete english paperback edition of Harry Potter.
Beedle the Bard in English and in German. I really love both editions.

Neither of these I own in German, both editions I owned twice at some point because I forgot I already had them…

One Wizards dictionary, a Harry Potter book calendar and a Friendship-book
One of my uncompleted series editions of Harry Potter, also given to me by a friend.
This is my favourite cover of them all, but the only one I have of this series. I want them all in hardcover, which aren’t cheap.

All of the Philosopher stone editions I own, including the illustrated version

IMG_0648 copy

#2 in the series.
#3, and personal favourite of the series, because of Remus and Sirius.
#4. When rereading this series, this is as far as I can get, then I keep putting off rereading the others.
#5. The one that took me forever to finally get through. I literally spent a whole summer reading this one.
#6. Not gonna lie, pretty sure I cried.
#7. I cried. A lot. I have reread this book the least. In fact, I have only ever read it once. Time to reread it again.

So these are all my Harry Potter books at the moment. I am 100% sure I am going to add books to this collection this year.
