5 English Language related Things

Five English Language things that are stuck in my mind because they amuse me

  1. Where is the autumn, winter or spring house??
This came about because we moved house, and this new house has a summer house. We have two Foster Children who are learning English, and one of them correctly pointed out, that he’d never heard of a summer house. He then questioned why that word existed and where the autumn, winter and spring house were.
  2. Metaphor vs Metaphor
I still pronounce this in a very german way. It just feels comfier pronouncing it that way, instead of the British way. Fun fact, I held a five minute presentation once about metaphors, and said it the German way the entire time. The teacher didn’t correct me until the presentation was over.
  3. Ridikulus vs ridiculous
Thanks to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, every time I say ridiculous, I giggle to myself purely because of that scene in that movie.
  4. School vs Schule
In Germany, I remember walking around making fun of the word “school” because we’d pronounce the sounds differently. It makes more sense in a video which I will be uploading on my channel, so make sure to check out my channel and subscribe so ya’ll don’t miss out on that video. I’m too lazy to write out the phonetics and everything for that at the moment oops.
  5. Lena vs Lina
This is another thing where I’d ideally write out the phonetic differences between the German pronunciation of Lena and the British pronunciation of that name. This will be in the same video as School vs Schule.

30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 15

Day 15: Bullet Point your whole Day

  • Finally got out of bed, 15 after my mum gently reminded me what time it was.
  • Sat outside for a little bit and listened to some music
  • Had breakfast and spent some time checking social media
  • watching youtube videos and typing this up.
  • We went out for some shopping, while driving around with no clear idea of where we actually wanted to go
  • We also didn’t know where to eat for dinner, after going to a supermarket
  • We ended up at a local restaurant.

This is a huge summary of today. I’m tired haha.

30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 14

Day 14: Post your favourite movies you never get tired of watching

Well, this is going to be easy. I’m pretty sure I mentioned my favourite movies before. Going to the cinema is something I do very often, and I love watching movies. The ones I never get tired of haven’t really changed in a very long time.

Harry Potter is an entire movie series I never get tired of watching (unsurprisingly). Another one is Zootropolis. I used to watch Spider Man every single day.

There are some newer movies I never get tired of watching. I enjoy watching Assassins Creed and Now You See Me 2 for example. I absolutely love Now You See Me 2, its so good. I really hope there is a next one in that series. I literally cannot get enough of those movies.

After the longish post yesterday, my mind feels weirdly blank.

13 Things To Do: After Finishing All Academic Work

A casual, non-writing-challenge kind of post:

13 Things To Do After Finishing Academic Work For Summer

What on earth should I do with my newly gained freedom, now that I have finished all my academic work? Here are 13 things I look forward to doing, with a bonus thing I look forward to.

1) Read all the books I want to read

2) Take extra long baths without feeling guilty

3) Take nice walks without feeling guilty

4) Watch stuff on Netflix

5) Spend endless time being creative

6) Reach those language goals I’m aiming for (trying to learn Japanese mainly)

7) Film those videos I want to film

8) Explore some other interesting topics I want to know more about (Astronomy for example)

9) Watch all the movies at home and at the cinema (without feeling guilty)

10) Enjoy the weather by being outside, instead of gazing out of a window whilst frustratingly typing up essays

11) Procrastinating (watching all the youtube videos and random stuff on TV) without feeling guilty

12) Playing Sims 3 & other games all day and all night

13) Just generally taking care of myself, both mentally and physically, and exploring nature, meditation, yoga and zen for self healing / self growth.

SO these are the things I’m basically spending some of my time doing.

14) Bonus Point: Travel

I’m actually off on a family holiday tomorrow, which I am really looking forward to. Apart from the 30 Day Writing Challenge prompts each day, I’ll hopefully sporadically type up some holiday related things!

Bursts of Excitement

As much as I have massive waves of anxiety and panic, I also have huge bursts of excitement. I am thoroughly enjoying these bursts of excitement and they generally help me dealing with anxiety.

I am officially getting really excited for the holiday to Malaysia in June. The feeling of excitements come in bursts. It’ll be my fourth time travelling there. Every time I go, I feel like I am going home. I have started planning on what to pack, and what to take with me in my hand luggage. I have even thought about what books to download on my kindle to read while travelling. But at the moment, it is all just excitement. I still need to focus on my Dissertation and essay for University before I start packing.
As much as I have irregular waves of panic an anxiety, knowing I will be going on holiday in June helps tackle my fear of sitting down and writing. The bursts of excitements give me bursts of energy and positivity I desperately hold on to and utilise to do as much as I can push myself to do without collapsing.

Apart from stressing over my dissertation, I’m watching Sense8 Season 2.  I am absolutely loving it so far and I don’t want it to end. I got really excited when I finally caught up on the fact that new episodes had finally been added to Netflix.

Also watching One Piece again. Watching One Piece is bringing up a lot of memories growing up and I fell in love with it all over again. I’m only on episode 103 though, so I have a long way to go to be up to date. I love all the anime I used to watch when growing up. Next to One Piece, I’d watch Detective Conan and Inu Yasha for example.

Blogmas Day 20: Comforters

With constant anxiety and stress, I often fall back to comforters to keep calm and/or reduce stress and anxiety.

These comforters range from books, movies, TV shows, anime and Youtubers or very specific youtube videos.

The Anime I fall back to for comfort are ones I used to watch when growing up. I love Detective Conan and Inu Yasha, and also fall back to Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. I’m also planning on watching One Piece (rewatching some of the episodes and then catching up on all the ones I haven’t seen yet -wish me luck omg), Black Cat, Junio Romantica and a bunch of others. But Detective Conan is definitely the anime I watch for comfort.

This is a really obvious and easy one: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I can’t really say why this is my favourite, but it is and out of habit, if I am in a reading slump and/or just want to read something familiar and something I love, I automatically just go for this book.  I don’t really have an entire series I fall back to. If I would, the Harry Potter series is definitely my comforter book series.

TV Shows

Currently, I am also trying to get through Full House, among many other things. Full House, compared to other things, is something I have seen before and I am rewatching it. This TV show is definitely a comforter, something I go to when I can’t decide what else to watch or just have on in the background. While studying, I once had Absolutely Fabulous on for a while, which was actually quite entertaining and I was heart broken when I finished all the Seasons.
If I’m actively wanting to watch something I’ve watched before, something capturing but something I don’t have to focus on too much, I also drift back to Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey. With both, I tend to have a glass of wine (or an entire bottle), so I tend to make a nice evening out of it.

One would guess, that this would include Harry Potter movies, but actually, it’s actually Zootropolis, Howls Moving Castle and Spirited away. I love these movies, and could watch them on loop all day every day. I just never get tired of them.
When I was younger I used to watch Spider Man every day after school to the point I knew every line. There wasn’t much on TV that I particularly liked, so I’d just watch that movie.

Most of the youtubers I like watching very often/most of the time end up in the Videos of the day.

The one channel, however, that I just love (and I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned them several times before), belongs to The Mischief Managers. I just can’t stop loving them. They’re so cute and awesome and I love their stuff and I just could watch their videos all damn day.

Another youtuber I would love to meet and hug and could watch all day is TT Bret. I love their tumblr and their instagram and just UGH. I can’t even think of anything I could squeeze into proper sentences because I basically live of their stuff and just get all loved up when I see their face.

The Harry Potter Tag

Inspired by this video, I shall be doing the Harry Potter Tag!

I tried to write out the questions as they appeared in the video, and I have the feeling I missed out a question… Anyhow, lets go.

What is your favourite book?
Harry Potter and the philosophers stone

What is your favourite movie?
Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban

What is your least favourite book?
Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix purely because it took me forever to read.

What is your least favourite movie?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, purely because I disliked the look of Harry Potter at the beginning of the movie? It’s childish I know but thats the only reason I could spontaneously think off!

What is your Favourite Quote?
“Now if you two don’t mind, I’m going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed – or worse, expelled.” -Hermione Granger

Who is your Favourite Weasley?
Molly Weasley or Ginny Weasley

Who is your favourite (female)character?
One of my most favourite characters is Remus Lupin.

Who is your favourite villain?
Bellatrix. The most obvious answer, but she’s awesome as a villain.

Who is your favourite (male) character?
Another favourite character is Luna Lovegood. And I really love Hermione Granger.

Favourite Professor?
Professor McGonagall, right next to Professor Lupin.

Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies?
Ginny Weasley.

If you could remake any of the movies, which one would it be?
Order of the Phoenix I think, just to include Hermiones’ stand for the House Elves. And any movie after that to include more of Remus/Tonks. And possibly the third one so we can get more info on the Marauders and their importance to the story line?

Which House was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?
I always wanted to be Griffindor, because of Hermione, but my gut feeling was that it might be Hufflepuff. Turns out I’m a proud Ravenclaw. Blue is also my favourite colour, and I automatically kinda wear it a lot.

Which class would be your favourite?
All of them, honestly. How could I choose just one?? I think I’d love Astronomy, History of Magic, Transfiguration and Study of Ancient Runes.

Which spell do you think is most useful?
Most of them, really. I really love Lumos, to, like, read in bed and stuff.

Which character do you think you’d instantly become friends with?
Luna Lovegood. I’d attach myself to Ginny, too, and Hermione. And Cho Chang.

If you could own one of the three hallows, which one would it be?
The Invisibility Cloak.

Is there any aspects of the books you’d want to change?
I’d love if Ron (+the other Weasleys) swore a lot more. I’d love to have more of a colourful language coming from them, or just more swearing in general, from everybody.

Hallows or Horcruxes?
Both? Both. Definitely both.

Yesterday, I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them with two friends of mine and I thought it was real good n I can’t wait for the other movies!

Some more videos -Potter related, naturally.

~ Ciarán ~

I started catching up on some vidoes last night. I can’t ever focus on just one thing, so just watching Finding Carter isn’t quite enough. Not even half way through I had a huge desire to put on music and just before the end I paused the TV to watch YouTube videos. I hugely blame my ADD for that. It’s a habit I still have to break.

Above are some of the many videos I watched. I love sharing them haha.

I slept in today, went to the beach for a bit and went back to the cinema again to watch Pete’s Dragon. Sometimes I plan on watching a movie, but never do, so I try to watch them as quickly as possible -especially in summer.

Otherwise I have been keeping busy doing nothing much. Been thinking of Merilin a bit, it’s her birthday today. Another friend’s dog died today so I’ve been really upset about that.

Furthermore, my aim before I start Uni again in October is to update my flickr page. To remind myself, I’ll share some of what is on it already.

I think that’ll be it for today. Finishing today off with an episode of Stranger Things.

Feeding an Interest: Spring in Japan

The weather is getting warmer, there’s more sun around. Its feeling a lot like spring. I really want to travel to Japan, and learn Japanese, and I’ve recently been watching a lot of videos on spring in Japan. I was kinda inspired by, surprise surprise, Sharla.

I really want to visit Japan around spring time.

Sitting outside in a park, eating food is great, especially after a cold winter is awesome. I also watched the vlogs of her friends she’s with! They’re pretty good, too.

Another video of Spring in Japan, which I really, really enjoyed. It’s about half an hour though, but its worth it! (Side Note: I usually have huge problems focusing on anything longer than 5 minutes long). Ahh, this video is so good tho.

I also found this video of spring in Germany (Don’t worry, he’s speaking English)

I can’t remember anything specific about things I did in Germany, apart from Easter, getting hyped for my birthday and just generally looking forward to warmer weather, green grass, not having to wear winter clothing and just having more pleasant bike rides. I loved going swimming outside again, and eating ice cream.

A short little post on spring. I asked a friend what she does in spring, apart from celebrate her birthday, and every spring she gets together with all her cousins for a cousin-day-out.

Inspired by this vlogmas video, I thought about sharing my favourite foody videos. Another Vlogmas video with food in it, which is really cute, is this one. The food looks really nice.

Fitting for my Holiday to Vietnam, this video popped up. I think I have mentioned his channel before. There is actually a whole playlist on Vietnamese food on his channel. Had I been that little bit better prepared, I might’ve watched a few more of them, including the 23 Things To Do In Saigon. In general, I like his videos. His voice is easy to listen to and the food all looks very yummy.

Online, I think I looked at something similar to what Miranda is doing in this video. It’s funny, the “food” looks disgusting and … yeah, it’s just a little weird.

My most favourite videos are people trying candy from other countries, such as this guy trying Japanese candy. There are so many videos of people trying Japanese candy, and I love them. They’re also really easy to watch. One of my favourites is also this video of American candy being tried.

Not an actual foodie video, but its a christmas themed “What’s in my mouth” -challenge and it is really adorable.

Again, this is only a brief post until I can review some of my own dishes tried in Vietnam.

I look forward to sharing more, personal foodie stuff with you!
